10 Things I'm Thankful For

As today is Thanksgiving it seems like a perfect day to remember the things that I am thankful for.  I'd like to think that I never lose sight of those things. . . but with or busy lives I know that some days we're more focused than others.

I am thankful for. . .

1)  Our family. . . my sweet family of four and beyond.  We are blessed with some amazing family in both our immediate family and our extended family.  I grew up in a small family . . my dad has one half brother and my mom has two sisters (one who is celebrating Thanksgiving in Heaven).  I only have three cousins.  On the other hand, Matt is from a huge family.  His mom is one of 13 kiddos. . his dad is one of 5 kiddos. . . holy cow. . lots of family.  I am thankful every day for marrying into the large crazy bunch.

2)  I am thankful for two jobs that keep both Matt and I busy and challenged.  While there are days where I question if all the stress and challenges are worth it, in the end I love my job and the people that I work with.  I'm truly blessed to do something I enjoy and that affords me lots of nice things in life.  For clarity, this comic is me poking fun at myself. . nobody else. . .

3)  I'm thankful for our home (the weird blacked out marks are meant to protect our privacy) that we love and that we hope holds years of hapiness for our family:

4)  Friends. . .it would be nearly impossible for me to summarize the way that I feel about my freinds.  Through cross-country moves, a miscarriage, family deaths, home sickness, etc. my friends have truly been my rock.  From my friends down the road to my friends across the ocean I am truly blessed.

5)  Brooklyn's school. . I am so thankful that Brooklyn has a teacher and a school that believe in empowering her to be the best student and kiddo she can possibly be.  Mrs. K has her hands full with a classroom of active Kindergartners, but she still makes time to ensure she is schooling Brooklyn with as much individual attention as possible.  This is a public school system. . . and while we certainly pay our fair share of property taxes to live in a good school system. . I'm still very grateful.

6)  God and God's Timing. . . I have seen so many examples in our lives of how God's timing can be so perfect, yet so unanticipated.  I never would have imagined moving to Belgium in 2008 or not having our second child until 2012. . . or ever being pregnant at the same time as one of my best friends, Miss Kathleen.  But, through it all, the timing has always been in perfect alignment with what is needed in our lives.

7)  Travel . . . I'm so thankful for the travel opportunities that we've had an hope to have in the future.  I'm thankful that while the logistics options in the US may not be as good as those in Europe, we still have many amazing things to see and can use travel to enrich not only our lives but the lives of our kiddos.

8)  The little people who make my little people shine - I'm so thankful that Brooklyn has found true and lasting friendships in her short life.  I have been so blessed with friendships in my life, and I truly hope my kids experience the same love that can come from close family and close friends.

8)  My husband - okay, I realize that he's technically part of my family but I think he deserves his own shout-out.  We've been through good times and bad times and lots of in between times and he's always there by my side loving me, supporting me, and always wanting the best for our little family.  We will be celebrating 10 years of marriage in May. . I couldnt' be luckier.

9)  Laughter. . .for without it this life would be nowhere near as fun or tolerable.

10) All the other blessings in my life . . . we are so very extremely blessed in this beautiful life of ours.  Today I am thankful for baby kicks and Brooklyn giggles. . the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. . . .Reality TV Shows that waste my time but make me laugh. . . Music. . . Etc. . . Etc. . . Etc.
