We had a good weekend. Fortunately our plans were limited mostly to soccer and church, with a lot of everyday house stuff thrown in the mix. On Sunday I had the grandiose plan of making a pot roast dinner with mashed potatoes. As I was starting to cook I heated up the olive oil to piping hot and tossed in an onion. Zoiks - I managed to scorch my arm with the oil and have a pretty nasty mark on my arm now. Hoping it heals without too much scarring. This picture isn't for sensitive eyes.
On Monday morning Brooklyn had a Halloween parade at school. Matt and I weren't able to attend, but Brooklyn seemed to have a great time. I had originally volunteered to help, but they told me that they had enough moms to help . . so I was asked to bow out (gracefully?) :)
When I got home from work I had a very hyper little trick-or-treater excited to get her costume on and hit the pavement. I managed to get her to eat a small portion of her taco before getting her dolled up in her cowgirl outfit. We had started our Halloween quest with Brooklyn wanting to be a cat . . I got right on it and ordered a cat costume (the only one that didn't look scary) and when it arrived the skirt was wayyyy shorter than appropriate and one of the ears was already coming unstitched. We went back to the drawing board and ordered her a Nala costume (from The Lion King). That made the perfect "fast" outfit for school and Trunk or Treat, but didn't quite live up to my standards for Halloween costumes. So, when Matt decided to be a bull riding cowboy I knew that Brooklyn would HAVE to be a cowgirl and she sure played the part well.
We were so happy to hook up with some of our friends and their three little pirates. As we walked from house to house we met up with some of our neighbors who also happen to have kiddos in Brooklyn's kindergarten class. We really like one of the set of parents in particular and it was nice to get to walk around with them. Brooklyn was thrilled to introduce her friends . . and I think the kids had a good time. It's always hard to wrangle a big group of kids, but I think we did okay.
Jaclyn, Reede, Chloe, and Brooklyn
Alyssa, Brooklyn, Jaclyn, Chloe, Gabe, and Grace
The Cutie Cowgirls
Josh and Matt - Josh dressed up like a gorilla and scared the bejeebers out of some of us who were not expecting it. Brooklyn was so scared she nearly climbed up my leg . .and was still talking about it later in the bathtub.
Amy (one of my favorite neighbors) and Me - This is a terrible picture of me, but hopefully Amy will get me her pics
Mark (daddy of the pirate clan) dressed up as Mister Matt and Matt dressed up as a bull-riding cowboy
My Lazy Girl Costume - I won't lie, I loved it
Sorting through the stash
Matt and I (not sure what's with Matt's face)
Brooklyn tired out a lot earlier than I expected, and was ready to head home. Remarkably we had her in bed by normal bedtime which I wasn't expecting. So. . . it seems to have been a successful Halloween at our house.
