The Past 6 Days

Sorry for my brief break in posting.  I've been slowly learning how to balance this new life as the mommy of two amazing kiddos.  I should knock on wood, but so far it has not been nearly as challenging as I had once anticipated.  Sure, it's a balancing act. . .but I had envisioned it so much more difficult.

I use this blog as a journal, to remember all the precious moments in our life. . . and therefore I want to be sure to capture some of the more important moments of the last 6 days.

Wednesday

As I've already summarized most of Easton's first day on Earth which centered primarily around him being born and him meeting his sister and grammy, I'll move straight on to Day 2.  Wednesday started off with a weight check for Easton.  He had lost a fair amount of weight due to my milk not yet coming in and then we struggled through most of the morning with some issues that ultimately helped drive me to decide that this little man would be formula fed like his big sister.  I know many of you reading are shaking your head at my lack of dedication. . but I know myself, my children, my family, and my circumstances and I will not apologize for one small moment for the decision.  Show me a kid more sweet and smart than my stunning 5 year old girl who was formula fed . . . well, like I said. . no guilt.

Later in the morning my friend Camron and Angie came to the hospital with each of their youngest kids.  It was nice to see them and give them both some baby cuddle time.  They brought beautiful flowers and some warm smiles.

The rest of the day was rather routine with another visit from Miss Big Sister and Grammy.  By afternoon we were getting a bit stir crazy . . . eager for the next day and to get to go home to our own comfortable beds.

Thursday

On Day 3 we knew we would finally get to go home from the hospital.  Because Easton was born in the wee hours of Tuesday morning our stay in the hospital was a bit longer than with Brooklyn.  While we appreciated the time to get to know our son while food and drinks were delivered . . we were more than ready to go home.

Easton checked out 100% happy and healthy and had begun regaining some of his weight. . . and I was also cleared for deeparture.  By about 1PM we were on the road home.  It was nice to have a couple of hours to get adjusted before Big Sister got home from school.

Our first night at home went relatively smoothly.  Getting "the kids" bathed and to bed was mostly smooth and our new family of four was finally under the same roof.  I did have a rush of hormones in the evening that resulted in tears and an early bedtime, but I've read that the hormones on Day 3 & 4 are typically the worst.

Friday

Day 4 was a rather laid back day.  We had a pediatrician appointment in the morning for a weight check.  Dr. B (our standard pediatrician) was out of town so we saw Dr. H (another doctor in the practice) for the first time.  Matt and I were both SO impressed with Dr. H (as we are with Dr. B).  They are both young and excited about kids and keeping kids healthy.  I was really excited about the experience. . probably moreso than necessary.  I have been so blessed with good doctors. . from my OB to my pediatrician(s). . such a blessing.

Dr. H did a weight check and other vitals checking and everything checked out very well.  He had gained more weight (was at 8 lbs 14 ozs) and everything looked fantastic.  After the doctor we breezed through Walmart to grab some essentials and headed home.  Matt's buddy from work, Scott, stopped over in the afternoon to drop off Matt's caseload and afterwards we enjoyed my favorite dinner homemade by Matt.

Saturday & Sunday

We had a fairly laidback weekend around our house.  No major occurrences to speak of.  On Sunday our friends, Brandon and Payton, and their two kids stopped over to see the baby.  Afterwards Matt headed out to get a head-start on work for the week while I stayed with both kids (alone. . for the first time. . . ruh roh raggy) . . . and survived :)

So. . bring on Monday. .and the real world. . and all that jazz.

I'm a very big fan of the Scooby Doo reference in this post. So glad everyone is home and healthy. We cannot wait to come and see you guys. Also, your sister really enjoyed Easton's "text message" earlier today. :)
