The Day We Did NOT Miss the Bus

I'm proud to announce that today Brooklyn did not miss the bus.  In fact, we drove to the bus stop (so I could head straight to work after the bus left) and arrived about fifteen minutes before the bus arrived.  We took a second to snap a picture before we headed over to the bus stop.

I couldn't help but smile today as Brooklyn climbed into the bus with her buddies behind her. . and all three of their little booties crammed themselves into the front seat of the bus.  It made my heart swell with happiness when I watched A and G climb into that seat next to her. . because her only complaint from day 1 was that the bus was a little scary because she had to sit behind G and A.  All three of us moms smiled. . hoping that they have years of stories together. . . kindergarten, first grade, and onward.  We love our neighborhood!

Apparently Miss A has been begging her mom to switch to Brooklyn's after school program because she is sure that it's better to be with Brooklyn than at her own school. I love little people friendships - they are so pure and innocent.

Brooklyn had another great day at school today.  They practiced cutting and read a book called Ruby the Copycat (http://www.peggyrathmann.com/rubythecopycat.html) . . . although Brooklyn thought it was called Ruby the Coffee Cat.  She brought home a note from her teacher today saying that on Monday we'd have an 8 day homework assignment to work on and some sight word practice.  I'll be shocked if Brooklyn doesn't already know the words. . . but I'm still excited to practice with her.

I apologize to those of you that probably find this blogging boring, but I want to remember everything and I want Brooklyn to remember everything.  These times are just so precious.

Another moment I just don't want to forget happened tonight as we got ready to do our nightly reading.  Brooklyn was reading to me out of Pinkalicious: School Rules!  Typically Brooklyn gets a bit frustrated with reading when she encounters challenging words but tonight she read every single word that came. . . didn't get frustrated. . .and some of the words were tough (for a kindergartner)!  She had a huge smile on her face when she got done reading (we just have her read 4 - 6 pages a night and then read to her).  I gasped. . . "Oh my goodness!  Are you PROUD of yourself?  You actually look PROUD of yourself today, Brooklyn." I said with a huge smile on my face.  She looked at me with the happinest face and said "Yep Mommy, I'm proud!".

These are the days when I can smile and hold my head high and say I AM doing what is right for my kid.  We ARE doing something right.  She is proud that she's doing so well and of course I am too.  Love this precious little girl.
