Pinterest Craftiness

I have spent a large amount of my free time in the past couple of weeks on Pinterest finding great ideas to try out.  There are such fun ideas out there ready to be tweaked.

The first thing I made was an awesome Enchilada Pasta that was To.Die.For.  Loved it. . . ate it for dinner three nights this week.  I love it when something tastes good enough to get excited about leftovers.  Here's the recipe.  Wicked good. . seriously!

This week I started working on two wreaths I was so excited about making.  I couldn't find any great instructions on Pinterest. . .although I did find a picture that I wanted to duplicate so I got to work.

First I made this:

Which will begin gracing my door sometime around October.  Alternating with these BEAUTY that I made next:

As my beautiful friend, Sarah, inquired on Facebook I thought I'd share my instructions on how to make them.  Here's how to make one - these are my instructions. . . so bear with me. . .

1)  Purchase a variety of ribbons in whatever style you desire.  I like to alternate about five different types.  Most of mine I get at Hobby Lobby on 50% off - but I did get the Hawkeye ribbon and Football ribbon at http://www.theribboncarinval.com/.  I'm not exactly sure how much ribbon you'll need - so maybe order extra for your first wreath just in case.

2)  Purchase either a wreath form (you can find these at Hobby Lobby near the floral area) or go to Lowes and purchase some foam plumber tubing (they come in about 6 foot sections).  My Hawkeye wreath is about a 16 inch wreath form - but I could have done the same by cutting a piece of foam tubing to the same length and taping it together with electrical tape.

3)  Cut up the ribbon you bought to 19 inch segments.  You will need quite a lot of ribbon.  Keep your receipts in case you have extra.

4)  I like to line up the piles of like ribbon in the pattern I plan to execute in my wreath.  Hawkeye ribbon, black ribbon, yellow ribbon with black dots, etc.

5)  Use a lighter to melt both ends of your cut ribbons to prevent fraying.

6)  It's time for the knotting!  Take your first ribbon and tie it around the wreath tying each ribbon in two knots.  This will take a bit to perfect, I like to tie them so that the pattern side of the ribbon is facing the front.

7)  After your first piece of ribbon start on the next ribbon in your pattern.  Overlap the ribbon in the back so that your knots are very close in the front.

8)  Continue this all the way around the wreath until you meet back at the beginning.

9)  Accessories on your wreath are optional and can vary by your taste.  For the Hawkeye wreath I purchased an unpainted wood I at Hobby Lobby and painted it with black spray paint. . then gold glitter paint. . then a high gloss clear acrylic spray paint to protect it from the elements.  I purchased the football ornaments from the Christmas ornament area at Hobby Lobby and took of the hanger part.  I used super glue to attach footballs and the letter I to the wreath.

It's up to you how you hang the wreath on the door.  If your door is metal I would suggest buying a heavy duty magnet(s) to affix to the back of the wreath for use in hanging.  Our door isn't metalic (boo hoo) so we're going to put a simple nail in the front door and add a long ribbon on the back of the wreath for hanging.

Hope that's clear enough. . .  let me know if it's not and I'll refine.  They were so much fun to make!!!

The final idea I executed from Pinterest was to make a set of coasters for Matt's bar downstairs.  Here is the link:  Coasters.  I modified the instructions a whole lot to make them Hawkeyefied.  LOVE them too.

For those that come for a Brooklyn fix. . here's a picture from our HyVee trip this weekend.  She was my patient little crafting assistant this weekend.  Love her!
